A lap steel is just a block of wood with a pickup on it, so ultimately the pickup is all that matters. Here's mine, an oahu: there are of course other cool versions out there, but this pickup is the one that ry cooder saw fit to build into a strat for slide playing, and that jason lollar has just re-created for sale. I bought this in 1991, used it a couple of times and it has sat in a closet ever since.
