Kolangal is an IndianTamil languagesoap opera which aired on Sun TV. It is a Prime time serial that aired Monday to Friday @ 9.30pm from 26 May 2003 to 4 December 2009 for 1,533 episodes.The show received high rating and was much loved among the audience. This serial was not only a favourite soap opera for the housewives but also to the 2000's kids, children and youngsters. With the huge audience crew the show deserved a great success in the era of 2k's and was one among the most watched serials. The title song, title logo and the selective artists were also a unique backbone to the serial for it to reach the peak of success.Sources indeed revealed that the eye-catching kolam picture used as a title logo every day with a different picture caught high attention amongst the women and resulted in them practicing the same in their home.

Jun 28, 2012. Also starred in one Malayalam film, Balu Mahendra's Azhiyada Kolangal. Became director with Marathi film Aakriet, casting himself as a psychotic serial killer. The show starred Devayani,famous serial actresses(Manjari,Srividhya),Thiru selvam, Ajay Kapoor, Chandra Lakshman, Deepa Venkat, Poornima Indrajith in the main lead roles being the most important crux of the story. While Sathya Priya,Mohan Sharma,Kalpana Shree,Sabitha Anand, Vanitha Krishnachandran,Bombay Gnanam, Nalini and Kuyili in the parallel lead roles.

Actresses Neelima Rani, Devadarshini,Viji Chandrasekhar,Dhivyadharshini, Bharathi, Preethi sanjeev Were selected to play the most supporting roles with their negative shade of act portraying the antagonist roles respectively.

Kolangal serial also glorified number of famous tamil television actors like Sridhar, Shyaam, Auditor Shreethar, Thilla, Birla Bose, Devaraj, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Rajashekar, Giri,Abhishek Shankar, Tinku, Vishwa and actresses like Akhila, Sneka, Priyadarshini,Deepa Shankari, Nagalakshmi.

The serial is highlighted to have united various television artists in very important role and is marked to have been the serial with no replacement of any character till end except few.

After 10 years hiatus, the show started reairing from 26 November 2018 on Vikatan Prime Time YouTube channel from Monday to Saturday in the same prime time slot at 9:00 PM in Vikatan's YouTube channel. The re-airing of this serial has gained a huge response from the fans and a warm reception amongst the viewers as well.

The show is produced by Vikatan Televistas and Sun Pictures director by V. Thiruselvam and Kalanithi Maran. The title track was composed by D. Imman and sung by Harini.[citation needed] It was also aired in Tamil on Sri Lanka's Shakthi TV and United Kingdom's Tharisanam TV.

Plot[edit]

The story centers on Abhi, a hard working, ambitious woman with strong beliefs and her business rival and half brother, Aditya. Abhi with her 2 sisters leads a normal life though she tries to keep herself happy because she had a dark past. Her father had abandoned her and her mother & married another woman, the mother of Aditya, and has settled as a business tycoon. Abhi initially gets married, but it turns out to be an abusive relationship . Eventually, Adhi's lures all Abhi's close family members and turns out that all her family members are against her. Abhi divorces her husband and starts life's afresh She starts a new company but is given competition by her step brother Aditya Eshwaramoorthy who considered her as a sworn rival. Abhi escapes from his brother's tortures and puts an end to her injustice. At last scene abhi with the help of her friend Tholkappian leads a friendly and recluse life. Abhi starts to help orphanage,thereby ending she couldn't help herself but she wishes to be dear among orphans even though they are not known to them. She leads a successful life through the help of 2 friends, Tholkappian (Thols) and Usha, Adhi's ex-wife.[1]

Broadcast[edit]

In Sri Lanka the series was broadcast on Shakthi TV. In Singapore, the series was carried by cable channel Sun TV. The series was broadcast in Malaysia on Sun TV. In the United Kingdom Kolangal aired on Tharisanam TV and Global Tamil Vision. In the Indian state of Kerala, the series was dubbed in Malayalam and renamed Kolangal. It aired on Surya TV. In the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, the series was dubbed in Telugu and renamed Muthyala Muggu. It was broadcast on Gemini TV.

Remakes[edit]

The series has been remade into in Kannada language as Rangoli broadcast on Udaya TV and Hindi language as Maayke Se Bandhi Dor broadcast on STAR Plus.[2]
